Enrique AbarcaAssistant General Counsel, IP
Awards: Enrique is recognized among the "World’s Leading Intellectual Property Strategists" in Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) magazine’s 2016 IAM Strategy 300. The IAM Strategy 300 identifies those individuals who have an established pattern of success in executing world-class services related to the development and implementation of strategies that enable companies to maximize the value of their technology and associated portfolios.
Background: Enrique has extensive experience in providing transformational and disruptive change methodologies and advising on all aspects of intellectual property and commercial transactions, with a focus on structuring, negotiating and implementing technology transfers, licenses, and strategic partnerships, as well as intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions. Enrique is responsible for developing domestic and international intellectual property strategies, managing technology portfolios, providing infringement and validity analysis as well as managing outside patent and litigation counsel. He is a registered patent attorney with the USPTO and a named inventor in multiple pending and issued patents. Enrique currently lectures on business and legal strategies at Rice University’s Jesse H. Jones Graduate school of Management (Executive Program).
Education: Enrique holds a J.D. and B.S in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University and an M.B.A. from Rice University. He is fluent in Spanish and restores classic cars in his spare time.
